Day 3...Machu Picchu

You just can't go to Peru and not go to Machu Picchu. It is a gorgeous city built on the top of a mountain with magestic mountains surrounding it. So, on our third day we took a train ride (which was a trip all in itself) to the top of Machu Picchu. A couple of us walked around with a tour guide as he explained the buildings and the history of the city. Not much is actually known about it, so this post will be a lot of pictures. So, sit back and relax as I give you a guided tour... Jacob and I overlooking the Andes

terrace walls topped with a house
the city is right on the edge of these cliffs.
One of the many temples (sun, fire, earth, water?)

My lovely Hubby...we were there midday so the shadows are pretty harsh, not the best for photography.
They would use all the terraces to plant crops.
I can only imagine what this must have been like when people lived here.

wouldn't you love to have this view out your window!

the architecture is really quite impressive...they carved the rocks into tongue and groove so they all fit together perfectly.
Living on the edge
they even had irrigation systems.
a trip in Peru wouldn't be complete without llamas...or are they alpacas?
Whew! I hope I didn't scare you off with so many pictures!
The trip will continue later...for now I have to get busy!

The pictures are great. You're an awesome photographer. They remind me a little of when we went to Pompeii. I'm glad you had a good time.
