Before we came out to Hawaii, Jacob's brother Sabe told us that we shouldn't come back without surfing. So yesterday we tackled that must do and had a ton of fun. Jacob, Allie, Clint, Trevor (Clint's brother), and I headed out for our surfing adventures after the boys got home from work. We first tried to go to the west coast which after driving through the ghetto and seeing 3 police helicopters fly over head, we decided that it wasn't such a great idea and headed up to the North Shore instead. As we were renting out boards, I nonchalantly asked the guy if there had been any shark attacks lately (hoping to ease my fears). I regretted the question as soon as he answered with "well actually there was one 3 weeks ago at the beach just down the street".

I'm proud to say that even with this knowledge, I still went surfing. The waves were the perfect size, but the water was only a few feet deep with sharp rocks at the bottom. I was able to catch a few waves (once standing up) and balance standing on the board without waves. We all had a lot of fun. Besides bruised ribs and knees, and a few cut feet, we come out pretty unscathed with no shark attacks.
Of course after our surfing adventures we had to watch the movie Blue Crush (a Hawaii based girls surfing movie) and try to recognise all the sites. It would be so much fun to come and watch surfing during the winter here when the waves are huge, but for now sandy beach will have to do.

where did you end up renting your boards from? and NO pictures of surfing??!!
we rented them from Surf and Sea. I was sad that we didn't get any pics but we didn't want to bring the camera since we were all going to be in the water at the same time. I kind of wish we had though!
Oh, Matt will be so jealous! I'm glad you all are enjoying your time in Hawaii.
I am enjoying keeping up with your activities in Hawaii. You are an inspiration.
