Inspired by my friends posting new recipes on their blogs (
here &
here) and with a need to post something new since I'm slacking in my posts, I thought I'd share one of my favorite childhood treats. This recipe has special meaning to me since it was the recipe that got me baned from the kitchen when I was in middle school...you see, my mom wanted me to make this treat and had laid out all the ingredients, which I thought had been pre-measured. I made the cookie bars without reading the recipe and poured the whole 2lb. bag of chocolate chips into the mix. Needless to say, my mother wasn't very happy when they came out of the oven a complete chocolaty mess...My skills in the kitchen have improved since then, but I have to admit that I still try to make things without reading the recipe.
Magic Cookie Bars
½ cup butter
1½ cups graham cracker crumbs
1 can sweetened condensed milk
6 oz semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 1/3 cups coconut
1 cup chopped nuts
Preheat oven to 350 degrees (325 degrees for glass dish). In 9x13” pan, melt butter. Sprinkle crumbs over top. Pour milk evenly over crumbs. Sprinkle with chips, coconut, then nuts. Press down firmly. Bake 25-30 minutes, or until light brown. Cool.
*Warning: Magic cookie bars are incredibly easy to make, and just as addicting.
